LSU’s Primary Staff
Theresia Connell has a varied background that includes education in marine science, communication design, architecture, art, photography, education and multimedia development. Over the past 20 years she has focused her experience on developing marketing materials, education outreach, distance learning applications, and alternative learning methods as well as teaching. Her career in developing educational products spans several large government organizations including the State Department, NASA, Navy Medicine and NOAA and large not-for-profit organizations such as the American Chemistry Society.
Ms. Connell has a life-long love of the outdoors and experience leading children and adults on many outdoor adventures – hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. In addition, she has organized and led day trips as well as overnight excursions by bike and kayak/canoe. With a strong love for science, Ms. Connell has always used these opportunities to share information about watersheds, geology, and other earth science topics that relate to the setting or adventure.
With LOCAL STEW U, Ms. Connell has combined this wealth of experience and leadership, in partnership with Chris Connell, to develop active and engaging adventurous science based programs for after school and summer school programs.
Kirsten Barrett is the oldest of six children, all of whom were home schooled. She grew up in a rural environment and was actively involved with the family farm. For the last several years, she has gained experience in education through internships, travel and as a teacher in home school settings. She also leads a dance team and teaches folk dance classes in her community. Kirsten speaks ASL and is also well versed in agricultural skills, including equestrian. She recently returned from Israel where she volunteered as a harvester for local Israeli farmers. She looks forward to meeting and working with the campers and their families attending Funie Farm camps this summer.
